Edgbaston Village-based charity announces summer fundraiser

A charity based in Edgbaston Village, on the Calthorpe Estate, is calling for local people to support its latest fundraising initiative.

Edward’s Trust, on Vicarage Road, is inviting local residents, businesses and friendship groups to take part in its ‘Pass the Baton’ Challenge, to help support bereaved families across the West Midlands.

Taking place on 3 and 4 July, the charity is challenging teams of up to 12 people to get up and active across a combined 24-hour period, to boost wellbeing and help raise vital funds needed to support local families. Each team member is allocated an hour-long slot, during which they can choose to take part in a form of exercise or an activity before passing the baton to the next person to reach the collective 24-hour total.

From running to cycling, skipping dancing to yoga, the team who raises the most amount of money will then be invited to the Edwards Trust HQ to be rewarded for their efforts.

Yvonne Gilligan CEO at Edward’s Trust, said: “We’re excited to be launching our 2021 summer fundraiser, and we can’t wait to see the activities people get up to.

As a charity, we rely on the kindness, generosity and support of local people and businesses to continue providing an invaluable service, and after a challenging year, we’re keen to encourage as many local groups as possible to get up and active to feel good and help others in the process.

“We’ve already seen a number of sign-ups already, with some fantastic team names and ideas for taking part submitted. We can’t wait to see the activities everyone gets up to – it’s shaping up to be a fantastic event!”

Nicki Gibberson, Head of Marketing at Calthorpe Estates, added: “Edward’s Trust is a fantastic charity that provides invaluable support to bereaved families living in the West Midlands. We know just how crucial raising funds is for the team, and how much of a difference even a small amount of money can make, which is why we’d encourage as many local people to take part as possible.”

Edward’s Trust, based in Edgbaston Village on the Calthorpe Estate, supports children, young people and adults facing the loss of a loved one. The charity was founded in 1989 by Peter and Hilary Dent in memory of their son, Edward, who died when he was just seven years old. Thirty years on, Edward’s Trust supports over 600 families going through bereavement each year, offering counselling, play therapy and wellbeing activities to help relatives through their most difficult times.
