Midlands’ Best Boutique Hotel to Expand

Hot on the heels of winning Best Boutique Hotel at the Midlands Food, Drink & Hospitality Awards, cocktail bar and boutique hotel The Edgbaston has secured planning for an additional 14 new bedrooms.

Work has already started on the construction of the new wing, to be built next door to the current hotel on Highfield Road on the Calthorpe Estate in the heart of Edgbaston Village, and the rooms are expected to open towards the end of this year.

Stuart Insall, co-owner of The Edgbaston, which currently boasts six bespoke bedrooms and three beautifully designed cocktail lounges, said: “We wanted to be sure that the two buildings will blend seamlessly so the new rooms will follow an art deco theme, whilst retaining period features such as sash windows and high ceilings, which will also make the most of the natural light.

“Since opening four years ago, the hotel has been occupied 95% of the time.  We never like to say no to our guests, which was our thinking behind the expansion. And when the new rooms are up and running, we won’t have to!”

Natasha Walkden, Sales and Marketing Manager for Calthorpe Estates, added: “Our vision for Edgbaston Village is being realised, it is firmly establishing itself as a renowned destination for high quality shops, restaurants, bars and boutique accommodation. We are finding that people are travelling far and wide to pay us a visit to enjoy the wide range of leisure and lifestyle facilities on offer, which include the recently opened OKA and Neptune home stores.

“Expanding this flagship boutique hotel – which has the only Moet & Chandon terrace outside of London – is the next logical step, as we see more people taking advantage of the vibrant location. It will enable both The Edgbaston, and the Estate as a whole, to continue to meet the increasing demand for somewhere unique to visit.

“The Edgbaston is a family-owned business, winning awards for its cocktail lounge and afternoon tea, and is run by two brothers whose aim is to show the world that Edgbaston, Birmingham and the Midlands are places worth visiting. We are delighted to be able to work with them to prove this.”
