New Vegan Kids Hair Salon opens

VEGAN HAIR SALON FOR KIDS OPENS IN EDGBASTON VILLAGE – ONE OF THE FIRST IN THE UK

A brand-new bespoke hair and beauty salon, exclusively for children, has opened within Edgbaston Village, further establishing the area’s reputation as a must-visit leisure and lifestyle destination less than a mile from Birmingham city centre.

Located on Islington Row, on the Calthorpe Estate, The Lion Zen is a vegan, eco-friendly hair salon, offering haircuts, pamper sessions and beauty packages for youngsters in the area.

Owner, Victoria Foster, launched the new venture after being inspired by her own difficult experiences when taking her children for a haircut. Seeing the need for a calm, fun atmosphere, Victoria set out to create a salon which aims to reduce the anxiety children feel during a trip to the hairdressers. Equipped with quiet hairdryers and clippers, a low sensory environment has been designed to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable experience is had by all.

To tie into The Lion Zen’s philosophy, part of the salon has been transformed into a leafy jungle, complete with chairs in the shape of zebras, lions and elephants for children to sit on whilst they have their hair cut. Downstairs, a pink palace has been designed for pamper parties, where young customers can indulge in a manicure, glitter tattoo or a relaxing foot spa.

The Lion Zen uses only organic, vegan hair products and nail varnishes made from non-toxic, water-based formulas, making them safe for children. Environmentally conscious, facemask and body scrubs are all created in the salon using sustainably sourced, organic ingredients. Even the salon’s towels are eco-friendly and 100 per cent bio-degradable.

Victoria said: “After struggling to take my own children to the hairdressers, I decided to create a salon where youngsters will enjoy going. The premises have been designed to make children feel welcome and we’re delighted with the environment we’ve created.

“Edgbaston Village is a fantastic destination, with lots of local schools and places to eat and drink nearby, making it the perfect home for The Lion Zen. Within a few minutes’ walk of Five Ways station and with on-street free car parking, the location is easily accessible for families to pop by during the day, after school or over the weekend.”

The Lion Zen is situated alongside other independent Edgbaston Village family favourites including Laghi’s Deli, LA-POP!, Boston Tea Party and Eye Opticians. Edgbaston Village, on the Calthorpe Estate, is fast becoming a thriving hub of niche shops, award-winning restaurants and cafés, adding to the growing portfolio, The Lion Zen adds yet another reason to visit the area.

Emma Davenport, Sales & Marketing Executive at Calthorpe Estates, added: “We are delighted to welcome The Lion Zen to Edgbaston Village, a vibrant leisure and lifestyle destination. As one of the UK’s first vegan hair salons for children, with its fun interior and welcoming service, it very much complements the family friendly offering we have in the Village. It’s an exciting time for the area as it continues to grow with a range independent shops, restaurants, bars and cafés. With excellent transport links, including Five Ways train station, The Lion Zen is yet another fantastic addition to Edgbaston Village.”
